Light Painting with TutorialsPainting With Light
Light painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source. It's a fun technique to dry out on a warm dark night For more information on light paintings or for tutorials, just Google around; it's a pretty popular and well documented technique. A quick search gives me: http://www.diyphotography.net/painting_with_light (if you prefer written tutorials) and http://lightpaintingphotography.com/light-painting-tutorials/jason-d-page/orb-techniques/ (if you prefer video tutorials). A tutorial for light painting with portraiture is also available on my website: http://jfotography.net/tutorials-light-painting-with-portraiture.php

Just a little reminderJust a little reminder
Some may love you,
Some may hate you,
And some may make you,
And do better.
Trolls will test you,
Haters will deject you,
But friends will support you,
When you fall,
When you rise,
And when you shine.
So through it all,
Through thick and thin,
Through heartache and adversity,
Never ignore who you are,
Never lose sight of who you want to be,
And never forget those who helped you along the way,
Become a better you.
Thanks for the support everyone
Thank your watchers for their support. Thank your group members for their contributions. Thank your watchees for producing beautiful works. There's a lot of thanks to go around especially in light of the last journal's little incident.
Spread the love (it's almost Valentine's Day )

Raffle: Win 400 Points
Update: the winner has been announced! http://roseonthegrey.deviantart.com/journal/Winner-Announced-for-Raffle-Win-400-Points-297598524
Points seem to make people happy so why not do a raffle. I have 400 points lying around anyway from my days of llama trading.
Rule: Fav this journal entry
Prize: 400 points
Ending: 4/21/12 (one week from now)
On the 21st, I will use a random number generator to randomly select a number x uniformly distributed from 1 to the number of favs the journal has (so every fav has an equal chance of winning). If you are the lucky deviant be the xth fav, then you win the 400 points. Easy as that.
(this is just a simple raffle to give away some unused points to try to brighten someone's day...you're not forced to jump through hoops or watch me or comment or do anything other than fav this journal for logistics reasons so it's easier to pick a winner...what do you have to lose? if I tacked on
What Your Art Is Telling About YourselfThese thoughts were preserved on my mind for many months now.
Since I started analysis of artworks, I always had a strong focus on the character behind the works.
But still it is hard to write about this, because I cannot give any concrete example for what I mean as no single artwork is neutral enough to talk about it, without giving ideas about the person who created it. Around us there are thousands of profiles, each one telling a different, unique story. Now I am not going to spend any word about the art anymore, just the artists I met so far.
I saw people filled with inner darkness, expressing their suffering through black and white, abstract works. All they try is making people see their darkness, sharing their inner worlds in a way that we might understand them. I have something to say to these: It is good to express emotions, it is great to share feelings with others and to find comfort doing this. But there is a high price to be paid. By creating such a reality, we focus

All deviants can now write Critiques Be a giver!
Sometimes you come across a deviation that deserves special attention. It catches your eye in such a way that you're compelled to craft a response that goes above and beyond a normal comment. Or perhaps a fellow deviant is having a tough time with a particular aspect of their work, and you know just what they need to take their art to the next level. As a good Internet citizen and art enthusiast, you want to help them out, but a normal comment doesn't quite suit your purpose.
For these situations and more, we've given everyone the ability to write a Critique.
What is Critique?
DeviantART's Critique system is designed to help artists get in-depth, critical feedback and commentary on their work. Valued feedback through Critique promotes creative growth as an artist and draws special attention to work. Critiques are also a way for committed art enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and fans to publish real criticism,

ARTGERMINATION - My Digital Art Chatroom
Many people has asked me about the rationale behind my nickname - Artgerm in many occasions. To me it is more than just a nick, it is actually my mission statement in my art journey, which I would like to see people get "infected" by my works and inspire them to create art. I've been drawing for the past 20 years, in which 16 years in digital medium. Art has already been part of my life long time ago - it is my passion, my profession and my life. Although majority of my time has been devoted to the commercial projects and my family and leave me very little time to impart my art knowledge to others outside of my studio, my mission statement has never and will never change.
As a result, I've decided to setup a deviantArt chatroom recently called Artgermination for all digital art discussions, which I put in a good amount of my time daily to interact with other dA members, sharing with them my journey in art and con
25 Life Lessons from Mental IllnessWhy am I talking about this?
I have drifted away from talking about my own illness in my attempts to help others cope with theirs. But, I believe that we can learn more when we let ourselves be a bit vulnerable, so I wanted to share more of my journey with you, my teachers.
I live with bipolar disorder, a mood disorder in which the person suffers from extreme ups (manias) and downs (depressions).
This list features my 25 lessons, but a lot of them are universal truths that many people who suffer from mental illness-- and many people who do not-- also experience. I hope you will also share with me and that we can make this list grow.
25 things I've learned from living with Bipolar Disorder
1. Everyone has something going on with them, all of the time. Just because they don't need medication to cope with it doesn't make their problems any less important than mine are. They are just different.
2. Having a bad day does

Publish a Journal to Multiple Places!New! Post to multiple places!
Since the release of Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer, there's been one feature in particular that we've been itching to release, and we're happy to announce that it's ready! Sta.sh Writer now allows for publication to multiple outlets, including your Gallery, Journal, or Group Journals.
How does it work?
1. Head to Sta.sh Writer and begin writing your entry.
2. Choose a skin for your Group from the right hand panel.
3. When you're ready to publish, choose any combination of your Journal, the Journal Portal (browseable by all deviants), and your Groups of which you are in an administrative class.
These options are perfect for those who may want to post the same message to their personal Journal and one or more of their Groups.
Keep in mind!
Submitters, be sure that you have the appropriate privileges to post Journals and/or deviati
Repetition is RepetitiousRepetition is great for practice.
Repetition is great for learning.
Repetition teaches patience.
Repetition teaches devotion.
Repetition is comfortable.
But repetition is repetitious.
Don't people get tired of doing roughly the same things over and over again?
Don't people get tired of seeing roughly the same things over and over again?
Tired of repeating the same techniques.
Tired of repeating the same concepts.
Need to improve.
Need to innovate.
Art is not my job.
Art is my mental exercise.
And I am mentally underfit.
So it's time to get back into shape.
