Additional Comments Been awhile since I've taken photos in my white bathroom
On a side note, first time submitting to this Horror & Macabre category. I don't know why dA's ranking algorithm is so partial to this category (read more about these category games here: [link]) This deviation's stats: Submitted:1h 13m ago; Favourites: 47; Views: 238; Category: Horror & Macabre (a very non-competitive category) The neighboring deviations on 8 hr front page of photography: In front: Submitted: 6h 5m ago; Favourites: 299; Views: 1,849; Category: People & Portraits (a generally much more competitive category) Behind: Submitted: 6h 4m ago; Favourites: 109; Views: 942; Category: Architecture By all measurements, the deviation ranked behind of this one is more popular and yet it's been deemed "not as popular" by dA's ranking algorithm. Similarly, the deviation ranked in front of this one is much more popular by all measurements yet the ranking system places these two deviations so close together. WTF. This piece, my piece, should not be ranked so comparatively high based on its stats. Give the pieces that have rightfully earned their spot on front page their gosh darn spot and well deserved attention. Could be because the site is called _Deviant_ art, and not Instagram? haha! I like dA as much as the next guy, and yeah, there's a lot of horror and furry action on here... but that's why it's DeviantART. There's always Flickr as an alternative haha
On topic: Nice shot!
PS: I was going to type a longer comment on your journal (and I still might, if I get the time) but remind me to tell you sometime about the little experiment I ran on dA a few years back. I uploaded the same picture to two accounts: my regular account, and another account which had a pretty girl as the profile and avatar. Guess which one got significantly more favourites/views/comments? The stats are skewed in favour of the user base, not the algorithms, if you ask me...
There are definitely other factors skewing rankings such as as you've said cute icons, or even popular memes like MLP or pokemon. But even dA has acknowledged that the algorithm is intentionally biased; I just don't think people realize to what extent. There's no denying the math.
This is just to let you know that you've been featured in my Best of the Best - March 2012 News Article
Thank you for the lovely work.
